Tamakala guide · Copper care
Copper is made for use. A little regular attention keeps it clean, while time gives it the warm, changing surface that makes each piece yours.
A useful distinction
Patina is natural. Tarnish is removable. Both are part of copper’s life.

Wash with warm water after use. A small amount of mild dish soap is fine when needed.
02
Use a soft sponge or cloth. Skip scouring pads, steel wool, and abrasive powders.
03
Dry inside and out straight away. This helps prevent water spots and keeps the finish even.

When you want a brighter finish
A darker surface is not a flaw—it is copper responding to air, water, and the hands that use it. If you prefer a brighter shine, use a copper-specific polish according to its instructions, then rinse and dry thoroughly.
For a gentler home method, make a loose paste from lemon juice and a little salt. Rub it on lightly with a soft cloth, rinse immediately, and dry well. Test on a discreet area first.
Keep in mind
Dishwasher detergents and heat are harsh on copper. Hand wash only.
Do not store lemon, vinegar, juice, or other acidic liquids in unlined copper vessels.
Refresh drinking water regularly rather than leaving it standing for extended periods.
Before putting a piece away, make sure no moisture remains inside or around its fittings.
